Skincare Routine for Sensitive Skin

Skincare for those with extremely sensitive skin is difficult. Finding the right products takes time and a lot of money. I have had reactions to products that are made for sensitive skin. I have finally found my holy grail products, Mashallah. I have used these products for 7 months now. Keep in mind I use minimal cosmetics, so those with sensitive skin and using foundation may need to add another step, I will share what I use when I have makeup days that need more coverage. I did learn a lot of these steps from French Facialist Isabelle Bellis and watching her videos on Youtube, if you want to learn more from her visit Into to Gloss

Summer Routine: I wash my face in the morning and evening. Once midday depending on how much I’ve been outside and exposed to city pollution.

First, wet face and neck with water prior to cleaning (the skin should be damp, I like to do it after showering so the steam softens the skin and opens the pores). I use a cotton pad soaked with Avene Micellar Lotion [picture of products down below] it is very mild and it cleans the face really well. It isn’t necessary, but I like to rinse my face off after with lukewarm water. Following, pat dry the face and then spray with Avene Eau Thermal Water. Tap water contains chlorine (and other chemicals) which can dry and irritate the skin over time, this product cools and soothes the skin. You can use this throughout the day to refresh or also as a setting spray after applying makeup (it gives a nice dewy look). After a minute has passed I wipe my face with a cotton pad soaked with Rose Water as a toner, rose water is filled with antioxidants and has anti-aging properties. In the morning after those steps, I like piano tap my face (yes it’s literally like you’re playing the piano on your face) I do this to wake up the skin, it also feels really nice. Lastly, since it’s summer my face produces more oil so I lightly apply Avene Skin Recovery Creme and I do not rub it on places that produce more oil, like the nose. Ladies and Gentlemen don’t forget the neck and decollete, these are areas that are often forgotten and too sensitive for normal body soaps.

Once a week I like to steam my face and apply a deep cleaning pore nose strip and clay mask. Bring a pot of water to boil and sit over it with a towel draped over your head. I do it for about 3-4 minutes. You can apply a few drops of lavender oil for a spa-like atmosphere, lavender is very relaxing and the scent is brilliant. Following I apply the nose strip (with dry hands) and then apply clay on the rest of my face and wait until the nose strip is dry and remove the clay mask with lukewarm water and then splash the face with cold water. Continue with the Eau Thermal Water and Toner steps after. I like to use Vichy clay masks. I also make my own, it’s much more affordable. I’ll share how to on a later post.

Tips:

  • On foundation makeup days I use a cleansing balm to melt away the makeup prior to the micellar lotion step.
  • You can put some cotton pads soaked with Micellar Lotion and keep it in purse for emergency facial cleaning. This is also much more affordable than buying makeup remover wipes.
  • I use Josie Maran Argan Infinity Creamy Oil at night on dry patches. They are usually moisturized and healed in the morning.
  • Never use soap on the face, especially if you have sensitive skin. It’s very harmful and dries the skin out. Dry skin is the cause for most people that have sensitive skin.
  • Be cautious and educate yourself about the cosmetics you use, most contain a lot of harmful chemicals that damage the face over time. Visit Skindeep and enter your products to learn what’s in them.
  • Makeup Alley is a great resource to research a product before purchasing. The reviews are also very helpful.
  • Sun Protection!!! Use SPF. I like to use Goop SPF products. They have been great for my sensitive skin. Use lip products that also contain SPF my favorite is by Fresh Sugar rose infused SPF lip treatment. Hats are also great sun protection.

I hope this helped. Have a blessed day.

Avene works well for most of us with sensitive skin. I too have dry-sensitive skin and Cetaphil and Aveeno are my go-to brands when my skin is at it’s sensitive best

It’s been a great find. I used different products back in the states which are not available where I am currently living. I have tried both of the ones you recommended the Cetaphil is a good alternative. Unfortunately, my skin is too sensitive for Aveeno. Thanks for your comment.
